What does IPXY mean?

The "IP" stands for "International Protection," as defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). However, it’s often referred to as "Ingress Protection." The numbers following the letters indicate the levels and types of protection offered.

The letter 'X' pertains to dust protection: numbers from 0 to 6 indicate the level of protection, with zero meaning no protection at all and six being the highest level (no dust can enter even with prolonged exposure).

The letter 'Y' indicates liquid ingress protection (from 0 to 8). Zero means no protection, while eight allows submersion in water up to three meters for thirty minutes.
